Camping Amenities

There are hot showers and flushing toilets. We are dog friendly and campfires are permitted (unless a fire ban is in place). We have drinking water available from all taps and generators are permitted at the River Bush Camp only between 8am and 8pm. Guests have the use of both washing machines and clotheslines. The washing machines take 7 x $1 coins. Reception is able to provide coins as needed. Please note we have no cash out facilities.

Looking for accommodation with a swimming pool on the Gibb River Road? Dive into the refreshing inground swimming pool at Balanggarra Home Valley. A rare oasis along the Gibb River Road that offers a cool retreat and is located right near the Homestead camping area and rooms.

Pool opening hours are 7.00am to 5.30pm every day, except Mondays when the pool is open from 10.30am to 5.30pm due to maintenance.

On-Site Store

Open from 7am to 6pm, the General Store is stocked with a range of basic food and toiletry supplies including cold drinks, milk, chocolates, ice-creams, cheese and crackers, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, and toothpaste. It also has a selection of fishing lures, insect repellents and merchandise items such as T-shirts, postcards, giftware and Aboriginal souvenirs.

Frequenty Asked Questions

No, there are no BBQ facilities at Home Valley. Campers need to be self-sufficient and bring their own cooking equipment. You can have fires in the designated fire pits. Campers are also welcomed to dine at Dusty Bar for breakfast, lunch or dinner. (Pre-bookings for dinner are essential). 

Home Valley has designated fire pits that guests can to use. Guests are required to collect their own firewood, which can be done from around Home Valley, however no trees are to be cut down for this purpose. 

The Gibb River Road is a challenging drive with roughly 16km of unsealed sections and two water crossings that sit between 300-500mm in depth, hence we recommend off road caravans and campers. You can bring your caravan with you should you wish, and we do have facilities available when you get here. 

When the weather is warmer so the conditions are generally better in May or in Sept/Oct. Barramundi are more active and feed when the water temp is over 24 degrees. 

There is NO boat ramp accessible to the public at Home Valley due to safety regulations. The Pentecost River is tidal, and inhabited by saltwater crocodiles.

Fishing at guests’ own leisure can be done from the riverbank only.

There are nice spots located at the River Camp, and on the bak where Bindoola Creek enters the Pentecost River. On the outgoing tide this is a prime spot to catch a Barramundi, Mulloway or Threadfin Salmon. The Pentecost is tidal and the Home Valley reception team can provide a copy of the tide charts on request. 

Given the Pentecost River is inhabited by saltwater crocodiles, please ensure you are at least 4 metres from the bank at all times and NEVER turn your back on the river. 

We advise you to make a booking, especially in the peak season.

Kununurra is the closest town to HVS, it is 120km east of Home Valley. This has a Coles supermarket, IGA supermarket, Butchers, Bakery, chemist, cafes, takeaways (Subway, Barra Shack, CFC, Bakery Pizza Wed-Sat, Thai 2 u Wed-Sat ), pubs, bottle shops, Commonwealth bank, post office (all other banking can be done at the post office), hospital, medical centre, dentist, camping store etc. 

Yes. The laundry at Home Valley is located at the Homestead Camp. There are two coin-operated washing machines that take $2 & $1 coins. Laundry detergent can be purchased from reception ($3 per bag). There are no dryers at the campground but 30 minutes on the clotheslines and your washing should be dry dry. BYO pegs.

Home Valley Station has Eftpos facilities available, but there is no cash out service. We accept cards but you should bring some cash just in case. 

Dogs and cats are permitted in the campgrounds only and must always remain on a leash. It is the responsibility of the owners to ensure that other guests are not disturbed by their pets. No domestic animals are permitted in the pool area or Dusty Bar. A pet fee applies.

You can bring a generator, but these are only to be used between 8pm and 8am at the River Camp.
